We
had an opportunity to present The 15th International Shiatsu Conference
in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Canadian Shiatsu
Society of British Columbia and the Canadian College of Shiatsu
Therapy. On the second day of the conference, a clinical Shiatsu
Workshop for Shiatsupractors was held at UBC. Tetsuo Inaba
Sensei, Previous Chairperson of Japan Shiatsu Association gave a
lecture and demonstration for the Cervical Region to 50 Shiatsupractors
from all over the world. Inaba sensei gave a speech about "Shiatsu
as a fundamental medical treatment". All participants once again
acknowledged the significance of Shiatsu. After Inaba sensei
demonstrated Shiatsu on the cervical region with Aoki sensei who played
a role of a patient for the participants, the participants started
practicing Shiatsu in pairs.
Inaba sensei himself assisted the participants
in proper technique. Everyone was surprised at the size of his hands, especially
his thumbs. His thumbs were the size of a big toe, which showed evidence of his
long, thorough and warm experience as a Shiatsu
practitioner.

シュコロンビア州立大学において、有資格者向けの臨床指圧講習会が開催されました。世界各国から50名を超える指圧師及びその他のマッサージセラピストが
集まったこの講習会では、日本指圧協会前会長稲場哲夫先生を講師にお招きし、「頚部の指圧」と題する実技指導が行われました。実
技指導に先がけ、稲場先生より「指圧は医療の原点である」というお話をいただき、参加者一同改めて指圧治療のすばらしさを認識。実技指導に突入後、まずは
参加者の前で稲場先生が、青木先生を患者にみたて、頚部の指圧のデモンストレーションを行い、その後参加者は二人一組になって実技講習開始。一通りデモン
ストレーションを終えた稲場先生は、指圧師一人一人の元へ足を運び、実際に手と手を取り合っての直接指導をしてくださいました。印象的だったのは、稲場先
生の手の大きさ。とりわけ親指の大きさには参加者一同驚愕。足の親指ほどあるその指からは、指圧師として長く、深く、そしてあたたかな歴史が手に取るよう
に伝わってきました。
